Our Story

Our Founder and CEO Matt Hertz has worked at the crossroads of brands and 3PLs for over 15 years, leading e-commerce operations as an early employee at pioneering e-commerce brands such as Rent the Runway and Birchbox. 

In 2017, he started Second Marathon, a consulting business that helped brands like Walmart, Away, BarkBox, PacSun, and Milk Bar optimize their supply chains, while also supporting global logistics providers from Geodis to Pitney Bowes.

As a brand consultant, the most common question Matt was asked was, “Who is the best 3PL?” So he developed a process to support brands to find the best 3PL for their specific needs, and he’s been successfully helping companies for over 7 years. 

Finding the right 3PL depends on many factors, and he knew it would be impossible to give qualified recommendations without digging deeper into the brand’s specific needs and wants and comparing those against the ideal client profiles of 3PLs.

But he realized that many brands were unable to pay consulting fees and wanted to create an experience that was available for all brands to leverage his experience and relationships.

So in March 2024, Matt launched Third Person, a free platform for brands to match with the best 3PLs for their specific needs. Using an AI-powered matching algorithm, Third Person is redefining the way brands and 3PLs connect with each other.
